Abstract

Image texture is defined as a function of the spatial variation in pixel intensities and has been a subject of intense study by many researchers. In the conventional methods of enhancing texture reproduction, only the lightness component is usually considered and different characteristics classified by texture category are not considered. In this study, we investigate the emotional adjectives related with visual tactility and texture. They are classified into three categories which can typically stand for Rough, Glossy and Soft texture. For visual tactility, texture is reproduced by both lightness enhancement based on lightness information and on the colour enhancement based on colour properties in each texture category. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between visual tactility and colour property. Following this relationship, we propose a realistic texture reproduction method for different texture types.
