Abstract

In this study we investigated different types of gelatine with respect to compatibility with polyvinyl alcohol, which is widely used as a component in coating industries. The influence of conditions like concentration, composition, as well as pH level, on the phase behavior were determined for different gelatine and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) types in solutions and in coated films using turbidity measurements and data from microscopic studies. A “compatible” system of PVA/chemically modified gelatine and the influence of the degree of modification was described.
