Insights into Growth Mechanism of Silver Halide Tabular Crystals: Further Consideration of Postprecipitation Effects and the Rough–Smooth Twin Structure

Abstract

The generation of {100}/{111} rough–smooth twin structures during the precipitation of silver halide tabular crystals is contrasted with possible changes that may have accompanied the postprecipitation processes. We conclude that the driving force for the generation of rough–smooth twin structures observed in cryosections is the energetics of the growth process at the twin boundaries during precipitation.
