      <abstract>
        <p>A review of the past and present work on discotic liquid crystals is presented paying particular attention to their use in organic electronics and uniaxial planar alignment. The use of electrohydrodynamic printing for micron and sub-micron resolution patterning is then investigated
 and the latest high resolution drop-on-demand techniques are reported. Finally, the use of the state of the art SIJ printer is demonstrated for its use in creating high resolution patterns of silver and SU8 photoresist for discotic liquid crystal alignment.</p>
