        <p>During the last couple of years, photographic film has gained significant attention as a medium for long-term storage of digital data. Intensive research has been performed on this topic and now the question arises whether this medium has the potential to be a serious alternative to
 conventional data storage systems. Aim of this paper is to this answer this question by providing a state-of-the-art technology review.</p>
