Color-management engineers have concentrated their attention on scientific issues (colorimetry, adaptation) in their efforts to provide consistent color reproduction on a variety of media and devices. Aesthetic issues have mostly been left to the user. However, some of these issues
are related to the characteristics of media and are amenable to analysis and automation. A study of tone management exemplifies this approach.
